Lasse hat genug vom Online-Dating. Nur widerwillig lässt er sich auf ein Date mit Nina ein — und trifft auf jemanden, der ihn vollkommen aus der Bahn wirft. Als er erfährt, dass Nina am nächsten Tag für sechs Monate ans andere Ende der Welt reist, muss er sich entscheiden: zu seinen Gefühlen stehen oder sie ziehen lassen. Ein Jahr später ringt er noch immer mit den Folgen jenes einen Abends.

What makes Once stand out is its emotional honesty. The film captures the strange timing of life — how the right person can appear at the wrong moment — and doesn't try to over-explain or over-dramatise that truth.
At its heart is a simple but emotionally rich story: two people meet on a date that neither expected much from, only to discover something rare and real between them.
Without ever becoming sentimental, Once manages to show how even a brief encounter can leave a lasting mark. It's a story that lingers — thoughtful and emotionally true.
This 'Sliding Doors' kind of scenario can be cheesy or predictable — but here it remained interesting and unpredictable.
Richard Kipp and Lea Mahler deliver charming and deeply believable performances, bringing warmth, humour, and sincerity to every moment they share. Their dynamic feels effortless — the kind of chemistry that doesn't need to be explained, only felt.
Although I don't speak German, the dialogue got me straight in the heart. The performances were really strong.
